Stories of Giving
Joe
"Joe" came to Frederick about 10 years ago, not because he was wealthy enough to choose a comfortable place to retire, but because had some serious medical problems and needed our help. In fact, Joe's doctor informed the family that he might have only a few years to live. But God and the great care at Frederick proved differently! Despite a few bumps in the road, Joe maintained a good quality of life. About five years later he began to outlive his resources. When the family applied for Benevolent Care, Joe was approved, because the spending down of his finances was through no fault of his own. Joe and his children have not only expressed their thanks many times, but have given regular donations to the Resident Benevolent Care Fund.
Mary & John
"Mary" came to Frederick Living many years ago with her husband "John." They lived together in residential living until John became ill and needed skilled care. Mary had served her country during the war years, and she really appreciated the activities at Frederick that remember those days and honor the service offered by many of her fellow residents. She continued to give back by driving her own car to deliver hot meals to needy seniors in the surrounding area. When her daughter approached Frederick with the fact that her Mom's resources were running low through no fault of her own, Mary was placed on Benevolent Care. This has allowed her to remain a productive and happy member of the Frederick family. In response to this act of kindness, Mary's daughter decided to volunteer at Frederick one day each week.
